Aquatic life (or fish) requires clean water to survive, hence having a decent aquarium requires quality filtration. Filtration can be biological, mechanical, or chemical.

The filter must run 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For optimal output, all filters must be cleaned every 6 months. Because the media in the filtering system contains live bacteria, it must be handled with caution. Mechanical filtration is less significant than biological filtration.
