Eleocharis vivipara is a taller version of the popular Dwarf Hairgrass and is commonly called sprouting spike rush, umbrella hair grass. This plant resembles aquatic grass, with thin stalks emerging from roots that spread horizontally through runners. When grown in huge clusters, this plant produces a striking background plant due to its enormous height.
High lighting and CO₂ injection aren't always required to develop hair grass, but they will undoubtedly speed up and thicken the foreground's growth. Simply cut larger mats into small pieces and put them halfway into the substrate, about an inch apart. After a few weeks, the plant will shoot out runners all over the place, creating a beautiful foreground of grass.
