Vallisneria americana ‘Gigantea’: As the name implies, this plant can reach great heights. The name gigantea is used by distributors, while the exact Latin name is Vallisneria Americana.
Vallisneria has a tall rosulate structure, vivid ribbon-like green leaves, and the capacity to populate an aquarium quickly thanks to its prolific runners.
Vallisneria has a cosmopolitan distribution with species found in North America, South America, Africa, Eurasia, and Australia.
This genus contains species that are hydrophytes or plants that dwell in bodies of water. They can be found in slow-moving to fast-moving rivers, streams, lakes, and wetlands.
It is an excellent plant for both new and expert aquarists. Acclimatization usually takes 2-4 weeks, however, after that, it can reproduce and become the primary plant in your fish tank.
The use of fertilizers helps boost growth. JBL balls are ideal for this.
Lighting is critical for achieving a good green color. To allow it to grow properly, use 0.7 Watt per 1 L. You can later reduce the light ratio.
Many keepers believe that this plant cannot be clipped, but this is not the case. The leaves will be fine as long as they are clipped back with sharp scissors.
Dying leaves can also be removed by lifting them away from the base.
Care Tips
- Additional COâ‚‚ infusion helps to maintain Vallisneria healthy and improves growth rate and development- you will notice the leaves becoming thicker and more vivid.
- Vallisneria is not a heavy feeder of roots. A nutrient-rich substrate, on the other hand, will undoubtedly help the plant, especially if there is insufficient natural bioload in the tank and you do not want to add fertilizers.
