Hygrophila odora : This plant is known under the name Hygrophila sp. ‘Guinea’ and H. sp. ‘Afrika’ in the aquariums.
H. odora is found in Western Africa. This lowland plant develops to more than 50 cm in level and is found, among others, on riverbanks.
It has strong, ascending to upright stems that lignify at the basis, and lanceolate leaves.
It has thick short tacky glandular hairs everywhere and a concentrated smell.
The light blue to purple blossoms are fairly enormous (north of 2 cm long) and sit in the upper leaf axils.
In Africa there might be numerous Hygrophila species, be that as it may, in aquaristics, Hygrophila odora is the first and until recently the just hygro species endemic in Africa.
It is a beautiful ornamental aquarium plant, which grows best in soft water, under strong lightning.
