Houston Air Plant - Single Air Plant
Tillandsia Houston is a cross between T. Stricta and T. Recurvifolia. It's a stunning silver variety with a bright pink inflorescence and lilac flowers. These blooms will appear in January (Summer). It looks like Tillandsia Cotton Candy, but the leaves are thicker and more rigid. It grows quickly and can produce a clump of offsets in a short period of time.
With its green and silvery appearance, the Tillandsia Houston air plant almost "glows." When the Houston air plant blooms, its leaves turn a silvery/purple color, making it one of the larger Tillandsia. As the plant grows older, its stiff leaves begin to curve out dramatically. When it blooms, the Houston will have incredibly delicate pink and white blooms! This air plant variety is a must-have for any collection, and it is a reasonably hardy plant that is ideal for interior design!
It is possible to grow this species indoors. However, make sure it is near a window with plenty of light and good airflow. Outside, this species will thrive in bright but indirect sunlight. This plant does well under a tree, on a verandah or deck, or in a shadehouse. Make sure the location you select has adequate airflow to allow the plant to dry out between waterings. Although this species can withstand cold temperatures, it must be protected from frost. This species can be grown suspended or mounted on a solid, non-water-retaining substrate (timber, cork bark, etc
Care Tips:
- More water has no effect once wet. Wet 'em and walk away.
- However, make sure to shake off any excess water. Allow no water to collect in the tillandsia (this will cause rot)
